| One Grand Prize of 1,000,000 yen and three Prizes for Excellence of 200,000 yen each will be awarded. Special prize will be awarded with souvenir, if some selected by the committee. In addition, the award-winners will be provided with a round trip air-ticket to Tokyo, Japan to attend the award ceremony to be held on January 7, 2011. |

Japan has shown remarkable resilience twice in its modern history by adapting to the drastic changes in the international environment following the Meiji Restoration and the Second World War. The country has built up a firm and solid position as one of the world’s leading economic powers. In recent years, however, Japan, once again, is faced with various cataclysmic changes such as the rise of newly industrializing economies headed by China, economic stagnation in advanced countries, and increasingly severe global environmental problems. Combined with the shrinking population, mounting government debts as well as politics in disarray, there is now widespread pessimism and a sense of social stagnation regarding the future of Japan.
Has Japan really lost its resilience and strengths? Can the nation, once again, demonstrate its capacity to skillfully adapt to such changes? Present your thoughts and ideas, looking ahead to the future of the Japanese economy, regarding what Japan should meet the challenges of the world with, what the future Japan should look like and the prerequisites for the revival and reconstruction of Japan.

Essays may be submitted by anyone regardless of nationality or age. Essays shall be type-written either in English or Japanese, no more than 4,000 words(in English) and 10,000 characters(in Japanese), including charts and tables. Each participant can submit one essay only.
In your essay a) title of the essay, b) summary of the essay (approx. 400 words) should be provided on top of the essay.

Essays must be submitted by e-mail or air/sea-mail no later than Sept. 15, 2010, and shall not be returned. Essays must be submitted in the specified format sheet down-loaded from our Web site.
Unless both essay title and summary are presented, such application shall be deemed incomplete and not be evaluated.

Award-winners shall be publicly announced on December 14, 2010 on our Web site and be notified by e-mail, telephone or mail. Award-winning essays and the names of authors shall be posted on our Web site, "JFTC Monthly" and "JFTC News" etc.
All submissions must be original. No previously published materials shall be accepted. All rights to the award-winning essays shall be the exclusive property of JFTC.
