Chairman Kokubu’s Comments on Second Reshuffle of Second Kishida Cabinet

September 13, 2023

Today, the second reshuffle of second Kishida cabinet has been announced. The JFTC welcomes this powerful lineup, which is expected to be capable of decisive action. We hope that the new cabinet will continue tirelessly addressing the various challenges that Japan faces, while at the same time securing the necessary sources of revenue to swiftly implement economic measures to deal with urgent issues such as rising prices.

The environment surrounding Japan is changing greatly day by day, and pressing issues for the new cabinet include promoting economic security, especially securing the resources and energy that the country requires; accelerating climate change policies and taking disaster response measures; reducing geopolitical risks in the Asia-Pacific region; and working toward a prompt end to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. As the power balance among major countries changes and the world becomes increasingly multipolar, numerous factors threaten free trade and investment systems, including attachment to protectionist practices rooted in nationalism.

The JFTC aims to build a sustainable world, and will continue harnessing the knowledge and experience of Shosha to contribute to the resolution of global issues. We will act in accord with the government to maintain and promote trade and investment systems based on free and fair rules, which are essential to sustainable global prosperity.
